Supplements for histamine intolerance sufferers
Histamine is a substance that occurs in varying amounts in many of the foods we eat. Most people are able to break down this compound during the digestive process, but those who are dealing with histamine intolerance are unable to do so. “In healthy persons, dietary histamine can be rapidly detoxified by amine oxidases, whereas persons with low amine oxidase activity are at risk of histamine toxicity.”1
When your body has trouble flushing histamines out of your system, you may experience symptoms similar to those normally associated with seasonal symptoms, such as a runny nose, headache, and congestion; you may also experience gastrointestinal discomfort. Foods that can cause histamine overload include aged cheese, yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, pickled foods, smoked meats, alcohol, and more.
Histamine blocking supplements aim to help your body break down histamines and relieve the uncomfortable symptoms caused by histamine intolerance.
The science behind it
The digestive system uses enzymes called diamine oxidases (DAO) to metabolize the histamines in foods and alcohol. People who don’t have enough DAO enzyme activity have trouble breaking down histamines which can lead to an adverse reaction.
In the 1970’s, a French GP noticed that, among the general population, farmers who raised quail had fewer annoying symptoms. He then conducted an experiment during which he gave raw quail eggs to his patients that were sufferers and noticed that the eggs acted as a histamine block and reduced their symptoms.
The findings led to more clinical trials, whereby subjects were given quail egg powder as a histamine intolerance supplement. “The results of these studies indicated that consumption of quail egg powder led to relief of subjects’ symptoms with good tolerability of the administered product.”2 There were no side effects of note among study participants.
The product behind it
Following these promising results, Vibrant Nutraceuticals developed a product called Clear: a chewable tablet which may help your histamine intolerance. It’s made from proprietary quail egg powder, has no side effects, and is fast-acting so that you can take it any time before or after eating or drinking something that is high in histamines.
If you suspect you suffer from histamine intolerance, try fighting back with an all-natural option that can prevent histamine overload and the uncomfortable symptoms it causes. Luckily, Clear begins working in under 15 minutes.
